VTIFF is pleased to present the first stop in an East Coast tour with award winning Cuban filmmaker Rigoberto Jiménez. Rigoberto is one of the founders of TV Serrana, a community media project based in the Sierra Maestra Mountains. He is currently engaged in the pre-production on his first feature film, On the Riverside, a work of fiction based on his documentary The Four Sisters (shown last year at VTIFF). Rigoberto runs the First Year Program at the International Film and Television School (EICTV) in San Antonio de los Baños. This is Rigoberto’s first visit to the US.
This tour is organized by the Americas Media Initiative (AMI).

Rigoberto Jiménez’s Biography:
Documentary filmmaker Rigoberto Jiménez graduated with a degree in Literature from the Eastern University in Santiago, Cuba. Jiménez is one of the founding members of TV Serrana, an award winning community video project based in the Sierra Maestra Mountains of Cuba. TV Serrana works with and for the campesinos of the Sierra, reflecting in their videos the realities of life in the Sierra. Jiménez is a member of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba UNEAC). The documentary productions of Jiménez have received both national and international awards, some of his productions include The Four Sisters, The Echoes and the Mist, and A Bridge over the River. Jiménez has also worked on documentary productions with indigenous communities in Honduras and Argentina, with and has collaborated with UNICEF on productions about childhood and community work in Cuba. Jiménez currently runs the First Year Program at the International Film and Television School (EICTV) outside of Havana.
