In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, a number of Swedish journalists came to the United States to investigate racial unrest and the changing political climate. They interviewed many of the leaders of the newly emerging black power movement, including Stokely Carmichael, Angela Davis, Bobby Seale, Eldrige and Kathleen Cleaver, and Huey Newton. Their work was televised during that period by the Swedish National Broadcast Company, but sat forgotten until 2007, when Goran Hugo Olsson, a documentary filmmaker, stumbled upon the 16mm material and put it together into a new film, blending the original footage and some new audio interviews. The result is fascinating-coming to the States with a neutral, curious viewpoint, the Swedes created a very different portrait than the US reports of the time.
