VTIFF 2013 promises to be one of most exciting festivals ever.
We are still working on the program line up – the final selection of films, events and festival guests will be announced in September. As usual, the festival will include both fiction and documentaries, animation films and several short film programs.
Meanwhile we’re happy to share with you the main series at the festival:
Spotlight films – these are films that we highlight as being excellent examples of the work of international and US independent filmmakers.
Best of Fest – films that have garnered awards at other film festivals.
Themes for 2013
ARTISTS IN ACTION
A new theme for VTIFF, these are films that illuminate in a cinematic way the work of artists in the fields of dance, literature, photography, cinema and music.
FOOD & FILM
This popular theme is back this year with 5-6 films covering many aspects of the role of food in our life. From food production to consumption, from the pleasures of the plate to the work of restaurants, we promise you treats. Some of the films will also include post-screening talks with food specialist, and some delightful tastings.
SPORT & FILM
Another first for VTIFF, this series includes some amazing films about the people whose life is devoted to a range of sporting activities. Snow and mountains feature largely, but not exclusively, in this series. Stay tuned.
True to our roots as an environment film festival, we have chosen this year to focus on Water. 4 amazing films take a look at the role of water in our lives and the impact of environmental developments on the most essential element being alive.
Cinema is a wonderful medium for presenting the complexities of the human experience and many of the excellent films we have watched this year have focused on the subtleties of finding ones identity. Coming of age themes have been particularly strong as well as sexual orientation and a particularly moving film about the gradual loss of identity through Alzheimer’s.
We are also pleased to be showcasing a great Bollywood film as our tribute to the 100th anniversary of Indian cinema.FILM & EVENT SCHEDULE
